Food and Drink at Kingston

We recognise that not everyone on holiday wishes to be tied to the kitchen cooking. Therefore, there are a number of options available to guests at Kingston House to relieve this chore.

Specifically created for cottage guests, the Moveable Feast menu offers an extremely diverse range of dishes cooked by our Roux trained chef that can be re-heated in the evening with minimum effort. Changed throughout the season to reflect local produce available, the ingredients are locally grown and reared. Complementing a classical English repertoire such as Crock of Salcombe Crab, Shepherd’s Pie and Bread and Butter Pudding there are more exotic temptations such as Eastern Lamb, Englishman’s Encore and Lemon Polenta Pudding with Spiced Plums. Guests are invited to order their selection before 1.30pm and the feast will be placed in the cottage kitchen before 5.00pm with detailed heating instructions.

To complement the meal, each cottage has a copy of the house wine list offering some 50 different wines from around the world including champagne. All are available to purchase at normal retail prices.

For more formal occasions or for a special evening, adult guests may dine in the house. A three course dinner is available with an optional cheese selection. The menu is a combination of authentic 18 th century inspired dishes together with classical English haute cuisine. Drinks and canapés are served at 7.30pm in either the drawing room or out on the west terrace followed by dinner in the candlelit dining room at 8.00pm.

For larger parties and family groups, the Under Croft of the house with its vaulted ceiling transforms itself into a cosy, intimate bistro. Complete with its own kitchen, meals can be cooked and served by us, or the room can be rented by those who might wish to cook themselves for a larger number of guests over a festive period such as Christmas and Easter.
